NetPad Introduction
As an option, you can develop your own application program on PC with Microsoft C/Visual C++ and User Library provided with the NetPad package. Download your programs/files to NetPad to run your own applications. You can even make an AUTOEXEC.BAT to run your NetPad like an OEM computer.
The NetPad series currently consists models of HIT5, HIT3 and HIT2.
The HIT5 includes one standard parallel port, three RS232 serial ports, and one bar code scanner port. The bar code decoding system also be included . All non-decoded bar code scanners (WAND, CCD, and Laser) are applicable to the HIT5.
The HIT3 includes one parallel port and two RS232 serial ports.
The HIT2 includes one parallel port and one RS232 serial port only.
Any NetPad can connect with multiple devices, such as: bar code printer, electrical scale, slot card reader, and bar code scanner, to compose an automatic label printing system.
The HIT uses replaceable PCMCIA memory cards as the storage media. There are two card slots. Each slot can access up to 64MB card. They function like disks in PC. Both of SRAM and flash memory cards are applicable.
You can use your existing software package to generate any label that you want. Save those label formats as print files, and download them to the NetPad. You can then print those label files to your printers whenever you want from the NetPad on a stand-alone position. You can also perform the time stamp, quantity control, and field inputs on the NetPad.
Yes, the NetPad has a built-in 512KB flash memory that functions like an internal drive C. For simple and easy applications, users can store their applications in this memory and run from there.
The NetPad has a PC compatible BIOS and MS-DOS emulated operating system.
Unlike the typical handheld terminals, the NetPad has a key-buttons nicely spaced keypad which is wide enough for most users.
For English users, the NetPad keyboard has a QWERTY and alphanumeric switchable layout.
For most of European and South American users, The NetPad has an optional multilingual and QWERTY layout keyboard. You can type an international or accented character with one keystroke only and yet, no key code has to be looked up aside.
The NetPad can output +5V power to external devices via the pin 9 of any serial port. This power supply can be turn on/off from the keypad or user's application software. This feature is particularly useful for applications with RS232 interface devices, e.g. barcode scanner, SmartPen, etc. which need a 5V power supply.
The NetPad can do more things than stated above. In addition to the printer control, you can use it for field data collection and management. You can capture, calculate, and record material movement, for manufacturing monitoring, process control, inventory control, ... etc.
